Bees in Italy PART TWO: My First Two Weeks Photographing

Added on by R.

The First Shoot: Lodi, Lombardy

Near Milan, Italy

Near Milan, Italy

Just outside of Milan, in city called Lodi, I visited my first beekeeper on Part II of this photographic voyage! This beekeeper is the friend of someone who found my photography project via Twitter! (I guess you never know what contacts you will find online!)

It was a rush, a full sensory experience, walking into the apiary and seeing colonies of familiar bees.

It was like I never left Italy last fall, time meant nothing. Seeing them in buzzing, hectic, mid-day flight overcame me with a sense of gratitude for everyone who helped me get this far!

City Bees: Turin, Piedmont

Next I took the train to Torino (Turin) and visited the countryside as well as rooftop bees in the heart of the city!!

Revisiting Beekeepers: Asti, Piedmont

In Asti I stayed with a friend who I met last year. She is an assistant to major beekeeper. Last year we found out how much we have in common, both beekeepers and a bit quirky (she’s a green belt in Tae Kwon Do!)

My friend’s grandmother even gave me a traditional recipe that I will be sharing in my Italian e-cookbook.. so get ready!

I am releasing the recipe in my e-cokbook

I got the opportunity to re-visit apiaries that I have already photographed last fall. This is a major component to the project, since the subtle changes that occur between seasons have more of a presence than they would otherwise. Also, by revisiting old friends I was able to hand deliver some printed photographs for my hosts to keep!
